Martin L. Kerns, II
President and Chief Executive Officer
Marty is a second generation advisor. His father Lane Kerns founded Kerns Capital Management in Houston, Texas in 1996. After practicing law for fifteen years and becoming a partner with Beirne, Maynard & Parsons, where he represented doctors, lawyers and business professionals in civil disputes, Marty joined his father at KCM in early 2007, and acquired the firm in 2012.
With a keen interest in helping other professionals build and maintain financial independence, Marty has developed and refined The OnCourse FORMulaTM to address the critical financial events that occur as a client’s life unfolds and their needs evolve. A key component of this process is the firm’s “Bear Hedge” strategy that strives to protect client portfolios from catastrophic life changing losses during periods of extreme market volatility.
Marty is also the co-founder and portfolio manager of the AXS Multi-Strategy Alternatives Fund (f.k.a. KCM Macro Trends Fund) which won the Lipper Fund Award in 2018 and 2019 for Best Alternative Global Macro Fund over five years; an award granted to top funds in each Lipper classification that achieve the highest score for consistent return, relative to peers.
Marty holds a Business Administration degree in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law. He is a former board member of the Guggenheim/Rydex Dynamic Advisory Board and the National Association of Active Investment Managers.
